Scholastic art and writing

Scholastic Art and Writing is a prestigious national program in the United States that recognizes and celebrates the creative achievements of young artists and writers. It was founded in 1923 by Maurice R. Robinson, an editor for Scholastic magazine. The program is open to students in grades 7-12 and provides opportunities for them to showcase their artistic and literary talents.

The Scholastic Art and Writing Awards are presented annually and offer students the chance to receive recognition, scholarships, and exhibition opportunities. The program accepts submissions in various categories, including painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, ceramics, film and animation, poetry, short stories, journalism, and more.

The submissions are reviewed by a panel of professionals, including artists, writers, educators, and industry experts, who evaluate the work based on originality, technical skill, and the emergence of a personal voice or vision. The top works receive Gold Key, Silver Key, and Honorable Mention awards at the regional level. Gold Key winners then advance to the national level, where they have the opportunity to receive additional recognition and scholarships.

The Scholastic Art and Writing Awards have a long history of showcasing the talent of young artists and writers. Many notable individuals, such as Andy Warhol, Sylvia Plath, Robert Redford, and Lena Dunham, received recognition through this program early in their careers.

Overall, Scholastic Art and Writing provides a platform for young artists and writers to gain exposure, build confidence, and receive recognition for their creative endeavors.
